Abstract:
The Biology of the Inner Ear course (BIE) is a 3-week training program that teaches advanced research approaches to the development, function, pathology of the inner ear and downstream auditory and vestibular pathways in the central nervous system. The BIE provides extraordinary opportunities for student-faculty interactions. This year, a total of 48 expert faculty along with 6 teaching assistants introduced a class of 17 students to the fundamentals of the auditory and vestibular system through lectures, tutorials, research seminars as well as side-by-side guidance for laboratory exercises. Agudemu attended the course this year, and will share highlights from individual and team projects that the students worked on during independent laboratory time throughout the coursework.
