Two NHanCE members present at HFES 2021 and won research scholarships

Past and current Purdue members met at the 11th Purdue Night Dinner at the HFES 2021 Annual Meeting.
During the week of Oct 4th – Oct 7th, the 65th International Annual Meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) was held in Baltimore, MD. Ph.D. Students Maya Luster and Nade Liang delivered oral presentations during the conference. Nade Liang won a student research scholarship and an honorable mention for his research proposals.

Three NHanCE Lab members attended: Dr. Brandon Pitts (Lab Director, Assistant Professor in IE), Maya Luster (4th year Ph.D. student) and Nade Liang (3rd year Ph.D. student). In addition, Nade Liang won the HFES Perception and Performance Technical Group (PPTG) Student Research Scholarship (for the best research proposal) as well as an honorable mention from the Augmented Cognition Technical Group (ACTG). 

Three oral presentations were given by NHanCE Lab members:

  1. Maya Luster:  “Trust in Automation: The Effects of System Certainty on Decision-Making”
  2. Maya Luster: “The Impact of Mind Wandering on Signal Detection, Semiautonomous Driving Performance, and Physiological Responses”
  3. Nade Liang: "Look Up! An Eye-Tracking Study on Situation Awareness During Automated Vehicle Takeover”

Also, the HFES Purdue Student Chapter presented a poster showcasing the breadth of human factors research conducted at Purdue University (presented by IE students: Nade Liang and Maya Luster). Furthermore, the HFES Purdue Chapter won the “2021 Outstanding Student Chapter Gold Award” for chapters that have made significant contributions to the discipline, HFES, their campus, and/or their community within a particular year (chapter co-advisors: Dr. Robert Proctor and Dr. Denny Yuhttps://hfespurdue.wordpress.com/). The HFES Purdue Chapter also organized the 11th Annual Purdue Dinner during the conference, a chapter tradition aimed to help Purdue University alumni, students, and faculty in human factors stay connected.
