School of Nuclear Engineering and the U.S. DOE to host Millennial Nuclear Caucus

Millennials are in a unique position to shape the future of the nuclear field. Taking this seriously, students in the School of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University and members of the U.S. Department of Energy - Office of Nuclear Energy are hosting a Millennial Nuclear Caucus on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

Members of the U.S. Department of Energy along with thought leaders in the nuclear industry will gather together in a forum to discuss the current state of nuclear energy and what future developments might include.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in room 224 of the Class of 1950 lecture hall, 640 Oval Dr.

“The millennial generation is going to be our next generation of leadership.   Ensuring that they are well informed about the facts on nuclear technology is essential,” said Suzanne Jaworowski, senior advisor in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy.

Currently, nuclear provides 60% of the carbon-free energy for the United States and is essential to medical diagnostics and treatment, food safety, and space exploration.

The development of nuclear technology and energy are rapidly increasing with or without the U.S. involvement. Jaworowski says this is the reason for discussion and information, adding, “Our young people need to know the facts about nuclear to make up their minds about nuclear.”

If you can't attend in person, the conversation will be broadcast live on the School of Nuclear Engineering Facebook page.
