What is Nuclear Engineering?
The School of Nuclear Engineering (NE) focuses on the study of nuclear energy. Energy is one of the key global challenges of our time, and nuclear energy has been one of the most sustainable energy options over the last six decades.
In view of its ability to provide reliable, safe, and affordable electricity in a broad spectrum of energy scale with no carbon gas emissions, nuclear energy is indisputably the most feasible and indispensable option among many energy sources of the future. It is a pivotal time for us to provide the global society with top-notch ethical nuclear engineers as future leaders.
The BS NE degree prepares you for a wide range of jobs in nuclear engineering. Graduates design, develop and work in a wide range of areas including hydrogen and fuel cell systems, nuclear radiation, reactor physics, renewable and hybrid nuclear systems, thermal hydraulics and reactor safety.
Purdue engineers have an interest in changing the world, making an impact in their communities, and doing meaningful work. Strong leadership characteristics, ingenuity, adaptability, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and technical proficiency are among the main competencies that our students gain. Purdue engineering is dedicated to helping students attain the skills and attributes needed to succeed in this rapidly-changing global economy.
