The kit offers a diverse range of characters in a context that guides children in understanding the first aspect of the engineering design process: who is the client, what are their needs, and how can those needs be met. Each design in the kit focuses on those client-centered goals, but also develops spatial skills, critical thinking skills, and redesigning capabilities. In the back of the diary there are several blank pieces of graph paper to encourage children to create design plans of their own.
