Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering

I have had a strong interest in civil engineering and architecture ever since I saw the impressive skyscrapers and architecture when traveling in Chicago, IL; Dubai; Slovakia, Budapest, Hungary; and Vienna, Austria. To be able to design and build something like that sustainably, on such a large scale, fascinated me. I knew that if I chose a career in Civil Engineering, I would always enjoy my work. I chose to come to Purdue University to pursue a civil engineering degree because of its formidable reputation and their offering of an architectural engineering concentration for Civil Engineering.

Emphasis area

My emphasis area is in Architectural. With skyscrapers becoming greener and new research being developed every day to further improve these structures, my goal is to be part of that work and research. A dream project of mine to be involved in the next world’s tallest skyscraper.

Jasmine said her love of sports and Purdue University's strong academic reputation are the key reasons why she chose to enroll.

Purdue NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers)

The organization I am most proud to be a part of is the Purdue University chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. This organization is near and dear to my heart because it involves people who look like me and serves to support not only minority engineering students but also giving back to a community that looks like me. It is just a wonderful way to give back and has been a major part of my valued experience here at Purdue.

After I graduate

After I graduate, I plan to earn my Master’s degree here at Purdue through its 4+1 program. I chose to enroll in the program because I wanted to further my understanding of civil engineering, participate in critical research, and work closer with the incredible faculty we have here.
