Andres Rondon wins ASME Rudy Scavuzzo Student Paper Symposium & Competition

CE grad student Andres Rondon has been awarded first place in the 24th Rudy Scavuzzo Student Paper Symposium and Competition at the 50th Anniversary of the ASME Pressure Vessels & Piping Conference, held in July 2016 in Vancouver, Canada.

CE grad student Andres Rondon, advised by Sukru Guzey, visiting assistant professor of civil engineering, has been awarded the first place in the 24th Rudy Scavuzzo Student Paper Symposium and Competition at the 50th Anniversary of the ASME Pressure Vessels & Piping Conference, held in July 2016 in Vancouver, Canada.

The 24th Annual Rudy Scavuzzo Student Paper Symposium & Competition, sponsored by the PVPD Senate, attracted a record number of entries this year. Students from China, the U.K., Japan, USA, South Korea, Italy, France, Greece and the Netherlands participated and gave oral presentations while more than 700 technical papers have been published during the whole conference.

The paper entitled, "Evaluation of the anchor-bolt chair design considering localized stresses in the shell of anchored storage tanks ," written by A. Rondon and S. Guzey, won the first place in the competition in BS/MS category. Moreover, the paper entitled, “Evaluation of the design pressure and failure modes for the API 12F shop welded flat bottom tanks for oil storage,” written by A. Rondon and S. Guzey, received honorable mention at the PVP 2016 Conference.
