The Fulbright Scholar Awards are highly competitive and prestigious fellowships that provide unique opportunities for scholars to teach, conduct research, and carry out professional projects worldwide. Fulbright scholars have played an essential role in establishing long-term relationships between people and nations to enhance mutual understanding. Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and thousands of leaders across the private, public, and non-profit sectors. The benefits of a Fulbright Scholar Award extend beyond the individual recipient. Fulbright Scholars also help raise the profile of their home institutions. Dr. Qu's engagement abroad will enable her to establish research, exchange relationships, and connect with potential applicants.

While in Japan, Dr. Qu will teach and research sustainable building and data science. She plans to enrich the current curriculum by introducing new topics on advanced data science and sustainable buildings through lectures, seminars, site visits, and direct mentoring of the students enrolled in the University of Tokyo. Her research will expand understanding and approaches to building energy in pursuit of sustainability using data science. She aims to promote active and effective learning and a state-of-the-art curriculum in the field of sustainable buildings and to produce excellent frontier research outcomes in data-driven building optimization toward low-carbon building development.
