Current year: Junior
Kashish Sharma said she chose Purdue University because of its civil engineering program, incredible reputation, and promotion of its Women in Engineering Program.
Why I chose Purdue Civil Engineering
When I first applying to engineering and architectural schools, I was trying to gauge what route I wanted to take towards a career. Ultimately, I decided I wanted to pursue civil engineering. I chose Purdue’s Lyles School of Civil Engineering because it is known as being one of the best programs in the world and I was confident it would prepare me well for my career.
Emphasis area
My emphasis area is in Structural Engineering. I was always interested in art and design — as well as largescale structures and bridges. Just seeing them and walking across or through them has always been fascinating to me. So, this became something of a perfect blend of interests of mine.
Kashish is studying to be a structural engineer, which stems from a lifelong interest in buildings and bridges.
Women in Engineering
The engineering field as a whole is largely male-dominated, so when I was going through the college admittance process, one of the most important features of Purdue Engineering was the university’s Women in Engineering Program. I wanted to make sure there was a support system I could rely upon, and — over the years here — I have become heavily involved with the program.
After I graduate
After I graduate in 2024, I would like to attend graduate school. I am interested in research and pursuing a post-graduate degree is a great way to do so.
Kashish's other passions include art and music.
