CE alumnus Chris Burke (BSCE '77, MSCE '79, PhD '83, HDR 2010) has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

Burke is president and owner of Christopher B. Burke Engineering (CBBEL), an Illinois-based consulting engineering and surveying firm specializing in civil, transportation/highway, municipal, traffic, construction, water resources, environmental, structural and mechanical engineering. A gift from the Burke Family established Purdue Civil Engineering's Christopher B. and Susan S. Burke Graduate Program, one of the nation’s first named civil engineering graduate programs.
