Principal Investigator

Joyce Main
Interim Head of the School of Engineering Education and Professor of Engineering Education
Joyce Main is Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University. She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Education, the flagship journal of the American Society for Engineering Education. Her research focuses on the academic and employment pathways of science and engineering students. She was awarded a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) grant to examine the longitudinal career paths of engineering PhDs. Her contributions have been recognized with the Purdue School of Engineering Education 2024 Award for Excellence in Leadership, the 2023 Award for Excellence in Mentoring, and the 2022 Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. Dr. Main earned a BA in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, an EdM in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a PhD in Learning, Teaching, and Social Policy from Cornell University. Dr. Main is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education.

Graduate Students

Kyler Blowers is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Engineering Education. He is also Assistant Professor of Practice at Purdue Polytechnic Institute. Kyler earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology and his M.S. in Engineering Technology from Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
Tram Dang is a PhD student of Engineering Education at Purdue University as well as a tenured professor of physics and engineering at Santa Monica College (SMC), a two-year transfer-focused HSI in California. She received her Master’s in Materials Science and Engineering as well as her Bachelor’s in Physics-Biophysics from UCSD. Her research interests include understanding the key factors surrounding equity and student persistence, particularly at the community college level.
eugene l. d. mahmoud is a Ph.D. student in the School of Engineering Education, and a professor of Physics, Engineering and Engineering Technology at Mt. San Antonio College. He received a M.S. and Engineer’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UC San Diego.
