Dr. Hua Cai

Dr. Hua Cai conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface of environmental engineering, sustainability, and data-intensive systems. Her work uses agent-based modeling, life cycle assessment, system dynamics, big data analytics, and GIS to analyze and understand the environmental implications of emerging technologies. Her research interests include the energy-water nexus, next-generation transportation systems, energy policy, and sustainable urban development. Through her research, Dr. Cai aims to provide actionable insights that inform infrastructure design, environmental policy, and sustainable planning practices that enhance resilience and equity in complex socio-ecological systems.
In addition to research, Dr. Cai is passionate about mentoring students and building collaborations across disciplines. She seeks to connect academic research with real-world sustainability challenges through partnership with industry, government, and community organizations.
