Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

Purpose: Bi-weekly meeting of the ENE safety committee

1. New Business

  • Rick Womack and Jeff Huddleston completed bloodborne pathogen training in August
  • Discussed classroom safety during first week of classes
    • In general, classroom safety has been going well
    • Remind students to keep aisle clear of backpacks, umbrellas, etc. (“Have your bag touch a leg of the table.”)
    • Store skateboards in the front of the classroom with wheels against the wall.  Instructors should notify students of this.
  • Updates made on Alertus rollout.
    • Discussed possible modifications to FYE Emergency Response Plan following successful rollout of full Alertus system.
    •  Recommendations would be made to FYE Instructional Support Team and FYE faculty/administration.
  • Discussed implementation of 5S system in the AFL. May be a good practice to carry over to i2i Lab.

2. Review of Open Safety Items List

  • Item #33: Arrange shooter-in-place/workplace violence training for ENE – Closed. Staff training completed on 3/17/14, faculty on 8/20/14.  

3. Review of Near Miss Log

  • Item #10: ENE weather radio not getting good reception – Update. Will consider closing pending full adoption of Alertus on campus.  Alertus should cover the needs of the weather radio.
