Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

Purpose: Bi-weekly meeting of the ENE safety committee

1. New Business

-               Information on QPR Suicide Prevention Workshops will be in the 2/15/16 ENE Department Newsletter, including dates and a signup link.

-               No “near misses” reported.

-               One potential safety issue reported:

o   There is a water drip in the hallway at the corner of the i2i Lab by Amelia’s. Jeff said that Phil Qualio has looked in this in the past.

2. Old Business

-               WANG

o   Need to schedule the Purdue Police walk through.

§  Jeff is working on this; waiting on a response to his email.

o   Need to meet with Building Deputy to compile a list of needed signs.

§  For the stairwell within the ENE are, the “Not an Exit” sign should be replaced with an “Emergency Exit Only” sign.

§  Consensus was to couple the walk through with a sign review. Matt and Jeff offered to attend. It needs to be scheduled.

o   Resolution of Halon fire extinguisher issue

§  Jeff recommends a standard ABC fire extinguisher.

§  A halon fire extinguish is not recommend because it has  a high health risk.

§  Rick has contacted the Purdue Fire Department, and they recommend the ABC fire extinguisher.

§  Our concern is for the people’s safety, not equipment.

§  Our equipment in WANG is self-insured by Purdue.

§  Matt will explain the recommendation to Morgan.

-               ARMS

o   In the basement, we need signs at the end of the stairwell to keep students out from under the stairwell.

2. Review of College of Engineering Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

-               No meeting since last ENE Safety Committee meeting.

3. Review of Open Safety Items List

·             Safety Minutes

o   Have been posted on the ENE Website.

o   Teresa Morris provided information on ENE Safety Site web activity (attached)

§  Jim suggests grouping the data by week, rather than by day.

·             Workplace Violence Training

o   Jeff mentioned that this has been postponed until the Fall 2016 semester.

4. Review of Open Near Miss Items

-               No open near miss items

5. New Open Near Miss Items

·             Discussed stairwell cleanliness with Building Deputy.  Some improvement noted.

o   Matt and Jim have been told that the custodial staffing will return to full strength (8 for ARMS) as soon as possible.
