Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

Purpose: Bi-weekly meeting of the ENE safety committee

1. New Business

-       The results of the REM audit will be shared during faculty and staff meetings in early 2017.  The focus will be on electrical safety.

2. Review of College of Engineering Safety Committee Meeting Minutes

-       The first report of injury protocol was discussed.

3. Review of Open Safety Items List

-       REM audit action items:

o   MSDS’s to be converted to SDS’s

§  Step 1 – review current books for items no longer used and archive the MSDS’s (JH – AFL, JF – ARMS 1300 and WANG by 3/1/17)

§  Step 2 – Replace current MSDS’s with SDS’s (JH – AFL, JF – ARMS 1300 and WANG by 7/1/17)

§  (JH – AFL, JF – ARMS 1300 and WANG by 3/1/17)

o   First Aid kit in Demonstration Studio to be removed (RW by 12/31/16)

o   Plug at AFL check-in desk to be repaired (JH by 12/31/16)

o   GFCI power strip to be installed in WANG (JF by 12/16/16)

o   Sleeving in place on computer monitor cords (RW by 12/22/16)

o   Printer toners to be added to SDS books (JF by 12/22/16)

4. Review of Near Miss Log

-       Matt offered a good reminder to stop and ask when something different is observed.  He watched a student load a computer and monitor on the elevator, and asked the student where he was taking the equipment.  The student replied that it was extra equipment.  Matt then asked the student if he could take a picture, and the student agreed.  Although there are always unusual things going on, the best way to prevent theft is to remain aware and ask questions.
