MS in ENE

At this time, ENE is not admitting students into the M.S. program, as we are focusing our resources on the development of a premier doctoral program. Admission directly into the ENE doctoral degree program will be considered in exceptional cases (See the ENE Doctoral Program description). However, we encourage students interested in a degree in engineering education to consider the ENE doctoral program following the completion of a master's degree in a technical engineering field. We believe that a strong background in a technical area that includes both graduate level coursework and research will enhance placement opportunities upon completion of the ENE doctorate. During attainment of a master's degree, we advise students to seek a variety of opportunities to increase their potential for admission into the ENE doctoral program. Future applicants might consider opportunities to:

  • Gain formal or informal teaching experience
  • Acquire professional development in teaching (e.g. workshops on teaching pedagogies)
  • Become a student member of an engineering education society (e.g. American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) or IEEE Education Society to become familiar with the research in engineering education and the leaders in the community
    • Attend an ASEE or IEEE Education Society national, regional, or sectional conference
    • Read scholarly engineering education or education research journals (e.g. Journal of Engineering Education, IEEE Transactions on Education or others)
  • Obtain research experience - technical or educational
  • Complete an introduction to education research methods course

Opportunities such as those above will enable students to gain first-hand experience with the field of engineering education and prepare them to better articulate their interest in pursuing an advanced degree in this field.
