John Rogers
Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for MSCI Inc.
Purdue BS ECE graduate and DCSL Alum
Abstract:
Upon graduating with a degree from Purdue, you will likely have many options for what to do with your life and career. During this session, John Rogers, an alumni of DCSL, will share his experiences working at over 100 companies (mostly as a consultant!), what his day looks like as a Chief Information Security Officer, and also some personal anecdotes for making the most of life.
John will discuss which skills he has found most useful in his professional life, what he looks for when hiring new employees, and what sorts of challenges you may face upon entering the workforce. He will also share his thoughts on the information security field, its overlap with dependable / resilient computing, cyber threats facing industry, and how each of you can help!
Please feel free to ask questions. The hope is to make this an interactive discussion that focuses on the areas of most interest to each of you!
Bio:
John Rogers is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for MSCI, a leading provider of financial markets data for the investment community. In this role, John is responsible for all aspects of Information Security, Privacy, and Business Continuity / IT Disaster Recovery Planning.
Prior to joining MSCI, John spent three years at BNP Paribas, a top 10 global bank, as its CISO for the Americas region. Prior to his role at BNP Paribas, John worked in a variety of consulting firms as a cyber security expert. While his consulting experience primarily focused on clients in the financial sector, he also worked in other industries including technology, retail, healthcare, higher education, and non-profit. Before joining the consulting industry, John worked as an information security specialist at Bank of America.
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and has held numerous certifications, including CISSP, Series 99, PCI QSA, and CRMA. John has also devoted time to helping others learn more about cyber security, demonstrated through his five years of volunteer experience as the President of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) Charlotte Chapter and his participation in numerous cyber conference presentations over the years.
