Our paper titled "Macroscopic circuit quantum electrodynamics: A new look toward developing full-wave numerical models" was accepted for publication in the IEEE Journal on Multiscale and Multiphysics Computational Techniques.

This paper details a new mathematical description of commonly used circuit quantum electrodynamics systems that involve transmon qubits coupled to microwave transmission lines. Our new model is expressed in terms of three-dimensional vector electromagnetic fields rather than approximate lumped element circuit quantities that are typically used in the literature. This will allow us to develop full-wave numerical models to analyze circuit quantum electrodynamics devices in the future, which could be instrumental in improving the performance of these devices as engineers attempt to scale them to useful levels.

The paper presents a short background on circuit quantum electrodynamic systems before presenting the details of the quantization of our new mathematical model. We then derive the equations of motion for the coupled field-transmon system. To make the work more accessible, we assume a limited amount of training in quantum physics and provide many background details throughout the paper.
