Research

The research objectives of the BIRS Center lie both within biotechnology education and discovery research, with the overall goal of providing excellence in graduate and undergraduate education and training for careers in the life sciences, most recently emphasizing an additional area of regulatory science utilizing machine-learning to analyze drug quality. Regulatory science is multidisciplinary and the field of regulatory science also faces challenges to bring emerging research and technologies to the workforce. The BIRS Center has allowed for successful and sustainable multidisciplinary collaborations to bring cutting edge research content into the classroom. Within the Center, we have experts in educational methods and approaches for regulatory science, specifically within the area of biotechnology. Due to the Center’s focus, new courses have been developed and collaborations with industry scientists have been formed for our current regulatory science program at Purdue.
