The College of Engineering has started a new initiative to recognize Oustanding Mentors of Graduate Students in each Department. ABE-GSA accepted nominations from graduate students and received 6 nominations, each of which included support letters from 3 or more students. ABE is full of wonderful mentors who inspire our graduate students every day. Dr. Abby Engelberth was awarded the ABE Outstanding Mentoring of Graduate Students for 2016! The ABE department generously provided pizza as ABE-GSA organized a roundtable luncheon for Dr. Engelberth to share her mentoring philosophy with students and engage in a discussion on mentoring and life as an early-career faculty member.
Congratulations Dr. Engelberth and thank you to all the students who joined in the discussion!
Our philanthropy chairs, Julia & Josept, have really done a great job of organizing opportunities to give back to the Greater Lafayette community this fall. From reverse trick-or-treating at local hospitals and clean-up of West Lafayette through Winterization, we have ended the semester with two days of volunteering at the Care & Share soup kitchen of Lafayette. Here are some photos!
October has been a very busy month for ABE Students! With intramural sports, our reverse trick-or-treating philanthropy event, and the usual birthday bashes and professional development seminars, we have had a great month!
To get familiar with campus, the participants in our mentoring program went on a photo scavenger hunt to find campus landmarks or unique things on campus. The three pairs that competed had a blast and we hope to make this an annual ABE-GSA Mentoring event.
ABE-GSA hosted our annual Welcome (Back) Social for all new and returning ABE Graduate Students directly following the end of new ABE grad orientation. Many new students and many returners turned out for a showing of more 40 people. What a great time!
