An in-depth review of environmental protections for a common storm water culvert repair practice — cured-in-place pipe repair, or CIPP — has revealed differing installation practices across states, water contamination incidents in 10 states and Canada, and lack of safety data for existing installation practices. Funded by six states, Purdue University researchers examined past water contamination incidents, environmental studies, industry practices and construction specifications from 32 states.

At the annual EEE Recognition Night, several scholarships were announced in recognition of students who accomplished exceptional academic performance and exemplified dedication to the University and the field of environmental engineering.

Each year, the Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) faculty presents an award to the outstanding senior during the annual recognition night in April. The selected recipient is recognized for their exceptional academic performance, leadership, service, and professional activities. This year’s recipient is Jenna Klinedinst.

Ten teams from Environmental and Ecological Engineering’s (EEE) Senior Design course presented their findings during the annual EEE Recognition Night in April, with one team declared the winner for Best Senior Design Poster.

Three Environmental and Ecological Engineering graduate students were honored at the 2018 College of Engineering Graduate Student Research, Teaching and Service Awards Ceremony on April 24.

EEE Ph.D. candidate, Ehsan Vahidi, has received an Outstanding Research Award from the College of Engineering at Purdue University. This honor recognizes outstanding Ph.D. candidates who have demonstrated excellence in research through publications, recognized contributions to the research field and society, leadership within a research community, academic achievements, and participation in professional societies.

President Mitch Daniels surprised Larry Nies, professor of environmental and ecological engineering, with a One Brick Higher Award to thank him for his heroic work in helping save the life of a colleague earlier this year.

John W. Sutherland, the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE), has accepted a new, additional role as editor in chief of a Purdue College of Engineering publication arm that will produce textbooks, monographs, course notes, and case studies.

Michael Mashtare, assistant professor in Environmental and Ecological Engineering was honored with the 2018 Exceptional Early Career Award. The award recognizes outstanding undergraduate teaching among Purdue's early career, tenure-track faculty.
