Forty-five Purdue professors, including EEE's Chad T. Jafvert, will be honored Dec. 11 when they are inducted into the University's Book of Great Teachers, which honors outstanding teaching faculty who have demonstrated sustained excellence in the classroom.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Friday (Oct. 12) ratified two named faculty positions for EEE faculty members Ernest Blatchley and Chad Jafvert.

Purdue's undergraduate unit of Environmental and Ecological Engineering was ranked as the 12th best environmental engineering program in the nation Monday, according to the U.S News & World Report.

With the start of classes, graduate student Rasul Diop is just starting his coursework towards a Ph.D. but he was on campus long before the start of the new academic school year. Through the Purdue Graduate Bridge Program, an opportunity that allows incoming grad students to take part in funded summer research and mentoring, he was able to get a jump start on his graduate research.

John W. Sutherland, the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE), is researching smart/sustainable manufacturing as part of a multidisciplinary research team funded by a $38.9 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to the Wabash Heartland Innovation Network (WHIN). WHIN is a 10-county initiative in North Central Indiana devoted to working together to fuel prosperity for the region by harnessing the power of emerging digital technologies related to manufacturing and agriculture.

Purdue University researchers have developed a method to detoxify water with chlorine and ultraviolet radiation, which may provide new hope for water-stressed areas and help promote the reuse of wastewater.

The Purdue team, led by Civil Engineering and Environmental and Ecological Engineering professor Ernest R. Blatchley III, developed a method for selectively degrading and detoxifying amines, organic compounds derived from ammonia that are common in water supplies. Amines include a number of compounds that can be toxic to humans and other animals.

Congratulations to the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Team from Purdue University who received the Team Award from the College of Engineering during the Faculty Awards of Excellence banquet held on April 6.

A team from Purdue University recently competed in the Reusable Abstractions of Manufacturing Processes (RAMP) challenge from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and received first place.

EEE Administrative Director, Dr. Nina Robinson has received a Bravo Award from the Purdue University College of Engineering.
