Rebecca Ciez, assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering and Environmental and Ecological Engineering has received a three-year $498,809 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to assess the impacts of electrification and renewable energy on manufacturing processes and job quality in the United States steel industry.

John W. Sutherland, professor and the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his research contributions to environmental sustainability in manufacturing and their implementation in industry.

Reinhardt Schuhmann Jr. Professor of Materials Engineering and professor of Environmental and Ecological Engineering Carol Handwerker has been elected as a 2023 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.

Andrew Whelton, professor of Environmental and Ecological Engineering and Civil Engineering, was recently featured by Purdue Engineering's Medium for his work restoring water quality to communities after wildfires. Wildfires do not just wreak immediate havoc and destruction — they also have a toxic aftermath, especially affecting drinking water systems.

Lindsey Payne, director of service learning and assistant professor of practice in environmental and ecological engineering, and Kim Illingworth, assistant dean for learning and assessment and professor of pharmacy practice, received the inaugural Purdue Teaching Catalyst award at the annual Celebration of Teaching Excellence, presented by provost Jay Akridge.

Purdue EEE professor Linda Lee was honored at the seventh annual Distinguished and Named Professorship Ceremony on Thursday, November 3, 2022 for being named a Distinguished Professor of Agronomy.
