Andrew Whelton, a Purdue professor of civil engineering and environmental and ecological engineering, has traveled numerous times to the sites of wildfires, where he and his students collect water samples to help guide a community on the best way to restore its water systems.

Ernest (Chip) Blatchley, Lee A. Rieth Professor in Environmental Engineering and Professor in Environmental and Ecological Engineering, has received funding from the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Department of Energy as part of a collaboration to develop next-generation personal protective equipment (PPE) that will provide protection against airborne pathogens.

Fu Zhao, professor of Environmental and Ecological Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, recently received the Kos Ishii-Toshiba Award from The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Dr. Zhao received this award for sustained and meritorious contributions to design for manufacturing and life-cycle assessment (LCA).

Second-year MSEEE graduate student Jordan Cross received first place for her poster presentation in the Technical Talk Expo at the 49th annual National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE) Convention in Kansas City, Missouri.

EEE's Shweta Singh and 46 of Purdue's rising young faculty members received the inaugural Early Career Award, acknowledging their success as recipients of awards from federal agencies that recognize outstanding early career researchers.

Team Carbonbusters from Purdue University was selected as the Great Lakes Regional Winner in the EnergyTech University Prize. The team was awarded $3,000 for their business plan for their entry, “Removing the Barrier to Entry to Net-Zero Biofuels.”

EEE Administrative Director Dr. Nina Robinson was selected as a member of the Purdue Engineering Staff Leadership Academy (PESLA) Cohort 1.0 via a highly competitive process. After successfully completing the program, Dr. Robinson went on to serve as a member of the Leadership Team that guided Cohorts 2.0 and 3.0 through this two-year professional development experience.

Jen-Yi Huang, associate professor of Food Science and Environmental and Ecological Engineering, has received a five-year, $10 million USDA grant to increase the production of seafood due to its sustainability compared to land-based foods.
