Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Distinguished Lecturer Conference at Purdue

Three Ph.D. students from Purdue’s Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Nehika Mathur, Wojae Lee, and Justin S. Richter, presented their research in the AEESP Distinguished Lecturer Conference on February 2, 2018.
Nehika presented a poster titled “Industrial Symbiosis: Biomimicry in the Photovoltaic Industry”. She proposed the circularization of the PV industry using the notion of Industrial Symbiosis (IS). The fundamental idea behind IS is promoting closed-loop thinking within an industrial network by identifying waste streams that may have value as potential raw material/feedstock through the development of collaborative business/economic interactions between a diverse set of organizations.

Justin S. Richter’s poster entitled “Modeling the Social Impacts of Advanced Manufacturing,” demonstrated how social impacts such as cost of injuries and employees could be mapped to the flows of goods and services across the US economy. The work showed how a small set of industrial sectors can have a very large impact across the economy.

Wo Jae Lee presented his research on “Fusion of Multi-sensor Data for a Tool Condition Monitoring System Using Machine Learning Technique.” Reflecting on his experience, Wo Jae said it was a great time to share his research experience with other people from diverse background.
