  • EEE 56000: Sustainable Manufacturing - Fall 2024

This course explores the outputs and processes related to sustainable manufacturing, emphasizing their interactions with ecological systems. Students will investigate the concept of industrial sustainability and examine the various processes involved in material production and product realization. The course will analyze the environmental impacts of engineering design and manufacturing practices, introducing a product life cycle perspective.

Key topics include materials and manufacturing processes, energy and material flows, renewable energy, supply chain management, techno-economic viability, life cycle considerations (including end-of-life product management), and the principles of a circular economy. Additionally, students will be introduced to the concepts of societal sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

  • EEE 39000: Environmental and Ecological Engineering Professional Preparation Seminar

Seminar lectures and discussions to introduce students to aspects of professional practice within Environmental and Ecological Engineering. Topics include career planning and placement skills, professional responsibility and ethics, and effective functioning in the profession. Students will interact with several practicing Environmental and Ecological Engineers.

  • EEE 56000: Comprehensive Coverage: Environmental Impacts of Automotive Systems

Co-taught with Professor Abigail Engelberth, this was one of several one credit module delivered during the fall of 2017.

The outputs and processes associated with industrial (Automotive) systems are examined, with special emphasis placed on their interaction with ecological systems. The concept of industrial sustainability is explored. The processes used to produce materials and realize products are discussed. The effects of engineering design and manufacturing on the environment are examined. The product life cycle perspective is introduced. Topics to be covered include: energy and material flows, renewable energy, and life cycle issues including management of end-of-life products.. The course also introduces students to concept of societal sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
