Adams and Brophy, both assistant professors, are among just 53 engineering educators chosen to participate.

The five-year grant funds the study "Learning From Small Numbers: Using the Personal Narratives of Underrepresented Students to Promote Institutional Change in Engineering Education."

Purzer will present the paper "Does Context Matter? Engineering Students' Approaches to Global vs. Local Problems" at the Frontiers in Education annual conference this October in Arlington, Virginia.

The course, offered to high school students through Purdue's Gifted Education Resource Institute, teaches engineering design through the creation of wacky, Rube Goldberg–style machines—in this case, a device for watering a cactus in Arizona and another for creating a music video featuring the theme song to The Big Bang Theory.

On the advising staff since 2009, Timmerman has advised and mentored engineering students including S-STEM Scholars and Twenty-First Century Scholars and is this year's recipient of ENE's McDowell Award for excellence in advising.

The Clifton L. Lovell Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and Engineering Education, Wankat (who just marked his 40th year on Purdue's faculty) was recognized for the paper "The Role of Chemical Engineering in Engineering Education Research."

Smith, an engineering education expert, is one of 15 participants in a synthesis study on the status, contributions, and future direction of discipline-based education research (DBER) in physics, biological sciences, geosciences,and chemistry.

An advisor with the First-Year Engineering Program since 2002, Jennings has led many advising initiatives.

ENE's Richard W. McDowell Best Counselor Award goes to Timmerman for excellence in advising.

Oakes and Reed-Rhoads will be formally recognized for their outstanding contributions to engineering education at the American Society for Engineering Education's June 2010 Annual Conference & Exposition.
