ENE Professor William Oakes Named a Fellow of NSPE

The National Society of Professional Engineers' Fellow Program recognizes licensed members who have demonstrated exemplary service to the profession, the Society, and the community. Of the organization's more than 38,000 members, Oakes is one of 404 Fellows.

Student Team Chosen for “Mobile Design Boost”

Engineering Education doctoral students Shawn Jordan and Hanjun Xian, with Ag Economics student Kate Mane, will participate in this “boot camp” for prototyping digital learning products, sponsored by IDEO and Startl. The team’s project: an iPhone app called the "EcoExplorer.”

Rocio Chavela Named an NAE Engineering Education Graduate Fellow

Chavela, an ENE doctoral candidate, will spend 12 weeks in early 2010 in the National Academy of Engineering's Center for the Advancement of Scholarship and Engineering Education (CASEE).

ENE Professor Demetra Evangelou Awarded NSF CAREER Grant

Evangelou received the five-year, $400,000 award from the National Science Foundation for a study in developmental engineering, bringing to three the number of ENE's current CAREER Awards.

Doctoral Student Michele Strutz Receives NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Strutz, who will study the influences on low-socioeconomic students that inspired them to study engineering, is the National Science Foundation's first Graduate Research Fellow in the area of engineering education.

Purdue's Epistemology Professor of Engineering Education joined club members on Aug. 25 for a discussion of ENE programs and research. The club's affiliated D.J. Angus-Scientech Educational Foundation supports ENE's STEP program for high-ability prospective engineering students.
