Announcing Seed Grant Competition for Young Engineer Studies

Young Engineer Studies (YES) is an annual seed grant competition for funds to research issues and opportunities related to establishing engineering thinking in PreK-6 learners. The competition is open to Purdue faculty and research scientists. The submission deadline is April 14, 2007.

Trustees Honor ENE Professor

The Purdue board of trustees approved the appointment of Karl Smith as Cooperative Learning Professor in Engineering Education. Designated professorships honor individuals whose academic achievements have been internationally recognized or who have made a unique contribution to the university through scholarship, research, teaching or leadership functions.

Bill Oakes Honored for Linking Community Work with Classroom Studies

Campus Compact has selected Professor William Oakes, associate professor of engineering education and co-director of Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) at Purdue, as the recipient of the 2006 Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning.

Deborah Follman, an assistant professor of engineering education, has won the National Science Foundation's Early Career Development Award for outstanding young researchers.

Grant Will Support K-12 Engineering Education Research

A Purdue alumnus's $1 million grant, renewable for up to four years, will expand the university's educational research efforts to foster an interest in science and engineering in K-12 classrooms. The grant from Stephen D. Bechtel Jr. will support research and program development in ENE.

Engineering Education Hosts Research Advance

In a proactive response to the national challenge for engineering education reform, the Department of Engineering Education (ENE) at Purdue University hosted the inaugural “Engineering Education Research Advance” on April 29, 2005. ENE faculty and other leading researchers in engineering education gathered in Lafayette, Indiana, to review the national landscape in engineering education research and identify challenges and opportunities. The day culminated in defining major research thrusts for Purdue’s Department of Engineering Education.

Heidi Diefes-Dux Inducted into Purdue Teaching Academy

The Academy provides leadership for the improvement of undergraduate, graduate, and outreach teaching. Diefes-Dux, associate professor of engineering education, was selected for demonstrating excellence in teaching and identifying and solving a problem within education.

ENE Faculty Honored with Bernard M. Gordon Prize

The National Academy of Engineering awards Leah Jamieson and Bill Oakes, ENE faculty, along with Ed Coyle, professor of electrical and computer engineering, the 2005 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education for their work on the Purdue Engineering Projects in Community Service Program (EPICS).

Leah Jamieson Inducted into the National Academy of Engineering

The National Academy of Engineering elects Leah Jamieson, Ransburg Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and ENE courtesy faculty member, to the academy for innovations in integrating engineering education and community service.
