“I didn’t just choose Purdue. We chose each other. My desire to follow in the footsteps of some of the great astronauts and aviation pioneers led me down a wonderful path of discovery provided by the faculty and staff. I realize now that I was destined to be a problem-solver and to work on many diverse applications. It took eight and two-thirds years of education to realize this gift, but it’s the best investment that I ever made.”

Ronnie Miller is the group technical director for the MISTRAS Holdings Corporation. He also maintains a position in two of its subsidiaries, Physical Acoustics Corporation and Quality Services Laboratory-Plus as the executive director of engineering services and inspection for the Physical Acoustics Corporation and on the Board of Directors, respectively.

Miller began his career at the Hughes Aircraft Corporation in 1973 as a design engineer. In the 1980s, he established himself as an expert in acoustic emission, and in 1986, he completed the technical editing of the NDT Handbook, Volume 5: Acoustic Emission, which was published by the American Society of the Nondestructive Testing. Since, he has continued to solve customer problems and develop applications using acoustic emission, ultrasonics and electromagnetics.

In 1990, Miller received a publication award from the Acoustic Emission Working Group. In 1994, he became a Fellow of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), and he won the Technical Council Award for Acoustic Emission in 1996. He is a member of several professional societies to ASNT, including the Acoustic Emission Working Group, Society for Experimental Mechanics, American Society for Materials and the American Petroleum Institute.

All of his degrees are from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a bachelor’s in 1971, a master’s in 1975 and a Ph.D. in 1979.
