2 HEAL undergrads present at SURF Symposium
Two HEAL undergraduates participated in Purdue's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) Symposium on August 1.
Dr. Denny Yu advised Xiang Feng and Zairelys Reyes-Rivera on their projects. Five other students also worked with IE advisors during the summer and participated in the symposium. The research topics spanned multiple engineering, science, and agricultural disciplines.
Students and their IE advisors were:
- Xiang Feng (advised by Dr. Denny Yu) - Predicting Fatigue: Sensing Upper Body Muscle Activity in Robotic Surgeons
- Zairelys Reyes-Rivera (advised by Dr. Denny Yu) - Prediction of Injuries in an Airline Maintenance Environment Using Ergonomic Assessment Tools
- Emily Garcia (advised by Dr. Yuehwern Yih, Dr. Zachary Hass & Dr. Paul Griffin) - Reducing Preventable Hospital Admissions through Improved Discharge Process
- Alec Gonzales (advised by Dr. Brandon Pitts) - Augmented Reality in Semi-Autonomous Driving: The Effect of Warning Signal Format and Perceived Urgency on Takeover Performance
- Xiaotian Wang (advised by Dr. Harsha Honnappa) - Simulation Optimization of Non-Stationary Reflected Diffusions
- Valentina Chacon Buitrago (advised by Dr. Mario Ventresca) - The Role of Dataset preparation for Convolutional Neural Networks
- Joshua Stalbaum (advised by Dr. Srinivasan Chandrasekar) - Surface Metrology: Comparing Traditional and Novel Methods
