Group designs robotic infant to measure the "cloud" of nanoparticles babies create when crawling

When babies crawl, their movement across floors, especially carpeted surfaces, kicks up high levels of dirt, skin cells, bacteria, pollen, and fungal spores, a new study has found. The infants inhale a dose of bio bits in their lungs that is four times (per kilogram of body mass) what an adult would breathe walking across the same floor.

As alarming as that sounds, lead researcher Brandon Boor of Purdue University is quick to add that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

EEE to host 2018 AEESP Distinguished Lecturer

Pedro Alvarez, the George R. Brown Professor of Civil Environmental Engineering at Rice University, will give the keynote address Feb. 2 at the 2018 Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors Distinguished Lecturer Conference.

The conference will work to bring researchers in the field of environmental engineering together to share their research findings through poster sessions and presentations. It is free and open to the public.

Urban Water Projects class introduces service-learning and collaborative design

A class in Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University is stepping outside the typical classroom setting to provide a real-world, client-based design experience for students. EEE 49500, Urban Water Projects was launched in 2013 by the Director of Service Learning, Dr. Lindsay Payne in an effort to provide best-management practices when dealing with items like stormwater.

Dr. Jafvert to be inducted as Purdue University Teaching Academy Fellow

The Purdue University Teaching Academy is set to recognize Environmental and Ecological Engineering professor Dr. Chad Jafvert, amongst others.

Academy fellows are recognized for their outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate or engagement programs. Candidates were identified by their individual department or college/school based upon evidence of excellence in teaching, innovation in teaching methodology, teaching-related service, and scholarship in teaching and learning.
