There he was a research scientist with Eddie Chang, working on decoding speech from neural activity.  Before that he was a postdoc with Philip Sabes, where he developed algorithms for brain-machine interfaces and theoretical models of computation in posterior parietal cortex.

Dr. Makin received his PhD from the EECS Department at UC Berkeley under Jerry Feldman and Srini Narayanan.
