Seminars in Hearing Research at Purdue (SHRP)
Date: Thursday, November 11, 2021
Time: 10:30 – 11:20 am
Location: LYLE 1150
Speaker: Elle O'Brien, Ph.D., Lecturer & Research Investigator, University of Michigan School of Information
Title: Building the Capacity for Machine Learning in Neuroscience Research
Abstract: Many labs in basic science and translational research are eager to capitalize on the explosion of machine learning developments in the last decade. However, these methods are associated with tremendous technical, organizational, and mathematical complexity that even the world’s wealthiest tech companies struggle to support. This talk will explore ways that scientific (and specifically biomedical) researchers will have to confront new-and old- kinds of complexity to deploy machine learning techniques in the service of discovery.
Note: Elle's visit is sponsored by our Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience (PIIN) Grand Challenges project
