Gozdem Kilaz
Associate Professor in School of Engineering Technology and Aviation and Transportation Technology (by courtesy)
Gozdem Kilaz is Associate Professor in the Schools of Engineering Technology (SOET) and Aviation and Transportation Technology(SATT), by courtesy, at Purdue University at West Lafayette, Indiana. She holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering. Currently, she serves as the Director of the Fuel Laboratory of Renewable Engineering (FLORE). Her research is focused on transportation liquid fuels and sustainability. She is also a faculty member of the Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering (LORRE). Gozdem’s current projects include the synthesis, certification, and safety of all liquid transportation fuels as well as the analyses of electrochemical solvents utilized in energy systems of the US Navy.

Graduate Students

Louis Edwards Caceres Martinez
Graduate Research Assistant
Louis Caceres obtained both his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His research interests include fuel characterization, fluidization, and thermal modeling. He is currently working on high-performance renewable blendstock fuels under the supervision of Prof. Gozdem Kilaz.
Jacob Guthrie
Graduate Research Assistant
Jacob joined Kilaz's and Kenttamaa's research groups in Fall 2019. Before joining, Jacob earned his B.S in chemistry from Campbell University and his M.S from East Carolina University. His research interests lie primarily in analytical method development using various chromatography (UPLC & GC/GC) and mass spectrometry techniques for complex mixture and aviation fuel analysis.
Brent Modereger
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Brent Modereger earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry from San Jose State University before coming to Purdue, where he is currently a Ph.D. student in the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Department of Chemistry. He is a joint member of both Prof. Gozdem Kilaz's and Prof. Hilkka Kenttamaa's groups, specializing in mass spectrometry and chromatography to research efforts in aviation fuels.
Wan Tang Jeff Zhang
Graduate Research Assistant
Wan Tang Jeff Zhang is a graduate student in the Department of Chemistry. His research mainly focuses on utilizing mass spectrometers to analyze complex mixtures such as jet fuel, crude oil, and petroleum derivatives.
