Interdisciplinary research explores the power -and limitations- of lithium ion batteries

Mohammad Parhizi, a post-doctoral researcher with the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, has long been interested in heat transfer - a good fit for the work done in the college's Applied Thermofluids Laboratory and Fuel Laboratory of Renewable Energy. About a year ago, working with Jason Ostanek, assistant professor of engineering technology, and Gozdem Kilaz, associate professor of engineering technology, Parhizi began his current research, "The chemical and thermophysical characterization of electrolytes within lithium ion batteries".

Jet Fuel from Renewable Sources Gains Efficiency through Multi-Sector Collaboration

A patented process for converting alcohol sourced from renewable or industrial waste gases into jet or diesel fuel is being scaled up at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) through a partnership with Oregon State University and the carbon-recycling experts at LanzaTech. This work is part of the Chemical Catalysis for Bioenergy (ChemCatBio) Consortium, which is supported by DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office and leverages unique capabilities at each of the partnering national laboratories.

$1.7M Dept. of Energy grant to accelerate creation of sustainable aviation fuels

A new grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will accelerate research by the Purdue Polytechnic Institute toward generating sustainable aviation fuels. The $1.7 million grant was awarded to Gozdem Kilaz, assistant professor of engineering technology and director of Purdue’s Fuel Laboratory of Renewable Energy (FLORE).
