Mary S. Smith, a more than 50-year veteran of Walker Consultants, is widely recognized as a leading parking planner and designer. She has published extensively and is the author of Shared Parking (2nd and 3rd editions), a highly regarded resource for optimizing parking, reducing costs, and supporting sustainable land use and urban density.

Her work has earned major industry honors, including the 2018 International Parking and Mobility Institute Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2020 Harwood Leadership and Legends Award from the National Parking Association. In 2026, she was inducted into the inaugural Parking Hall of Fame class for her lasting impact on the field.

Mary has maintained strong ties to Purdue University. She received the School of Engineering Education's Outstanding Alumni Award in 2009 and has served on its Industrial Advisory Council since 2011. She also contributed to leadership searches and chaired a National Science Foundation project panel on engineering innovativeness.
