Howard Gobstein is Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). His team supports the Council of Academic Affairs (provosts), and undertakes studies to improve undergraduate education, workforce development and the digital transformation of universities. Over 20 years at APLU he convened STEM education projects involving dozens of APLU institutions and supported by NSF and other foundations. Earlier, he worked at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, the Association of American Universities (AAU), White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Gobstein served on the NASEM Roundtable for Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Education and chaired a NASEM workshop on Increasing Student Success in Developmental Mathematics. Gobstein was awarded the Purdue ENE Outstanding Alumni Award in 2010 and is a Fellow of AAAS.
