The Pearl River CSO Storage Project located in the vicinity of Sycamore Street, will require significant excavation of soil. Since at least 1885 several commercial and industrial businesses have been located on or adjacent to the project site. Refining, warehousing, coal storage, salvage, flour milling, paper/box board manufacturing, and trucking are among the businesses operating at this location. All buildings and structures were razed and removed from the site in 2007-2008.
The objectives of this project are to review remediation methods for lead contaminated soil, become familiar with relevant State and Federal regulations for clean-up of lead at former industrial sites, and develop recommendations for appropriate remediation methods. In addition, the project should investigate potential site management strategies that could be deployed immediately.
