Everydrop Water Filter Lifecycle Analysis

Whirlpool Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of home appliances. Although Whirlpool is most popularly known for its iconic brands and products such as Maytag washing machines and Kitchenaid small appliances, Whirlpool Everydrop water filtration products are lesser known but have a significant contribution to the business. Everydrop water filters are consumable water filters that are used in refrigeration. It is recommended that refrigeration drinking water filters must be replaced every 6 months.

According to the Sustainability Standard for Household Portable and Floor Care Appliances (AHAM 7002-2014/ CSA SPE-7002-14/ UL 7002), the environmental impact of a consumable product has several components: the selection of materials, the packaging of the consumable product, the environmental impact of shipping the consumable separately from the primary product, greenhouse gasses generated from the consumable’s production, the consumable’s end of life impact, and the consumable’s lifespan.

In this project, the group will conduct a life cycle assessment on an Everydrop water filter, analyze the environmental impacts of the manufacturing, use, and end of life phases of the product; and identify opportunity areas for minimizing the environmental impacts of the Everydrop water filter.
