Outside Scholarship Opportunities

The following is a list of scholarships available to environmental engineering students. These scholarships originate from a variety of sources and become available at different times throughout the year. Deadlines to apply vary with each scholarship, and a direct contact source for most up to date information is listed if possible. Applications can be obtained online through the sponsor organization unless otherwise indicated.

 

ACEC of Indiana Scholarships - The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana awards scholarships to students entering their junior, senior, fifth, or graduate year, each fall.  To qualify, a student must be an Indiana resident attending an Indiana school, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering program. The top ACEC Indiana scholarship candidate will be nominated to receive one of five top ACEC National Scholarships. Website link for ACEC Indiana scholarship program: http://www.acecindiana.org/?page=Scholarship.  Deadline to apply is typically in early February.

APWA Scholarships, Northwest Branch - The American Public Works Association (APWA NW) sponsors a scholarship program for students pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or Public Works Management.  Students studying in these areas that plan to attend an accredited university during the fall and spring semester at the undergraduate or graduate level may apply.  Candidates must reside or be employed within the geographic boundaries of the APWA NW. This area includes the entire counties of Boone, Winnebago, Stevenson, Lee, Jo Daviess, Whiteside, Carroll and Ogle - all in Northwest Illinois.  The deadline is typically in early June.  Visit http://illinois.apwa.net/MenuHomepage/224/Scholarship-Opportunities for details.

AWWA Scholarships - The American Water Works Association (AWWA) offers several scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students.  Eligibility information and application forms for AWWA national, provincial and section scholarships can be found at http://www.awwa.org/membership/get-involved/student-center/awwa-scholarships.aspx.  The application season typically opens in September for the next academic year, with varying deadlines per individual scholarship.  For more information contact scholarships@awwa.org.   

Buick Achievers Scholarship - This scholarship, funded by the GM Foundation, has been expanded to include current undergraduate students, as well as high school seniors and graduates. It was developed to help students who are leaders in both the classroom and their communities, but who may not have the financial means to attend college. It also helps to identify college students in majors covered by the program including science, technology, engineering and design, along with other areas of expertise essential to strengthening our nation’s manufacturing workforce talent. Cargill Global Scholars Program - The Cargill Global Scholars program is about more than direct scholarship funding. Enrichment activities are incorporated throughout the program duration. These activities are designed to foster and enhance leadership potential and critical thinking skills, and to provide the tools for scholars to become global leaders, decision makers, visionaries, and socially conscious innovators.  Current first and second year undergraduates enrolled at Purdue University who demonstrate exemplary academic achievement, leadership potential and are studying in engineering, among other fields, are encouraged to apply.  In addition to an annual scholarship for up to two years, the program provides leadership development opportunities through seminars, networking events, and a 1-on-1 mentoring program.  Typically ten US scholarships are given.  To learn more, visit www.cargillglobalscholars.com.  Applications typically must be submitted in March.

INAEP Scholarships - The Indiana Association of Environmental Professionals (INAEP) announces its scholarship season each fall.  This scholarship(s) is intended to promote and support the training of new environmental professionals in the State of Indiana.  Applicants must be currently enrolled at an Indiana college or university (a) as a full-time undergraduate (sophomore or higher level) or (b) about to begin or in the process of earning a graduate degree.  Applicants should also be pursuing a degree in an environmental-related field; possess a 2.9GPA or higher; and plan to reside and work in Indiana following graduation.   Scholarship application forms and submittal guidelines become available each fall on the INAEP’s website at www.inaep.info.  To sign up for the INAEP scholarship e-mail distribution list, please submit a request to inaepinaep@gmail.com.  Application deadline typically in late March.

NHA Scholarship - The National Hydropower Association (NHA) sponsors the NHA Past Presidents’ Legacy Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship goes to promising young students who demonstrate the academic skills and commitment to help create the next generation of leaders in the hydropower industry.  Eligibility requirements: must be current college sophomores or juniors who will be college juniors or seniors the next academic year (in fall), or graduate students with a minimum cumulative 3.0GPA who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited four-year university, and all applicants must be U.S. Citizens or legal residents.  Applicant must be pursuing a program of study that is related to the hydropower industry: engineering, sciences (biology, fisheries, and hydrology), communications, or environmental studies.  To learn more, visit http://www.hydro.org.  Application deadline is typically in early February.

SAME Scholarship, Kentuckiana Post - The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) brings together professional engineers and those in engineering related fields to improve and increase the engineering capabilities of the nation.  SAME fosters an environment to exchange and advance the knowledge of engineering technologies, applications, and practices.  The Kentuckiana Post awards multiples scholarships to students who exemplify the qualities and accomplishments of a promising engineering career. Students do not need to be military dependents, nor is military interest/participation required.  Students meeting the criteria (listed within the application) are encouraged to apply.  Applications can also be found at the Kentuckiana Post SAME web site http://posts.same.org/kentuckiana/.  Due date is typically in early March.
