Abstract:
 
A Historical discussion of the evolution of laws and regulations related to drones, including:
Federal and State law, Federal Preemption, Privacy Considerations, 4th Amendment protections, safety of flight, liability and
lawsuits, insurance, and the future.
 
Biography:
 
Michael J. Corso is a Florida Bar Board Certified attorney in Civil Trial Law and Business Litigation, with over 50 years of experience. A former aerospace engineer and U.S. Air Force officer, he earned his B.S. from Purdue University, School of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and went onto to Villanova University to obtain his law degree. Michael is a stockholder at Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A., in Fort Myers, Florida. Prior to joining Henderson Franklin in 1978, he was a Captain the United States Air Force, completing his military career in the JAG lawyer program.
Today, Michael focuses his practice in matters involving product liability and the defense of non-medical professionals such as lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers and surveyors in matters involving product liability, copyright and trademark infringement and other complex tort cases. He frequently lectures nationwide on legal and regulatory issues, including drone technology, and has authored articles such as An Architect’s Guide to Using Drones (AIA Trust) and Florida Drone Laws: Overview (Thomson Reuters Practical Law™).
 
Recognized for his contributions to both law and engineering, Michael has received numerous honors, including the Florida Bar Board Certified Lawyer of the Year (2022), Florida Engineering Society’s Professional Engineer of the Year (2022), and Purdue University’s Outstanding Aerospace Engineer Award (2011).
 
Michael remains actively involved in professional and civic organizations, serving on Purdue’s AAE Industrial Advisory Council since 2003 and holding previous leadership roles in the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute, and the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel.
