University of Tulsa Hosts EEE's John W. Sutherland for Sustainable Materials Lecture

From the University of Tulsa: John W. Sutherland addressed “Sustainable Manufacturing: Origins and Future Directions” during the College of Engineering & Computer Science’s Hulings Distinguished Lecture Series speaker on Oct. 19. Sutherland, a renowned expert in sustainable manufacturing, offered insights into the critical need for environmentally responsible manufacturing processes to meet the challenges posed by climate change, resource shortages, and waste management.

Purdue EEE's Outstanding Teachers Fall 2024

The College of Engineering recognized faculty, lecturers and other staff for outstanding dedication to teaching students in a Purdue Exponent ad on Jan. 13. Five Environmental and Ecological Professors were recognized: Michelle Indarjit, Chad Jafvert, Lindsey Payne, Andrew Whelton, and Zhi (George) Zhou.

To mitigate impact of wildfires on communities' water, report fills gaps in guidance to public drinking water system staff

Wildfires increasingly threaten public drinking water systems, but guidance on how to address damage to these systems from a wildfire has been insufficient, conflicting or inaccurate.

A new publication offers the first comprehensive guidance for public drinking water system staff, outlining the decision-making process for testing and recovering water distribution systems after a wildfire. This guidance was authored by Purdue University engineers and published by The Water Research Foundation. Four water utilities in California also sponsored the publication.

EEE Graduate students present, learn, and network at AWWA WQTC in Illinois

Water quality is a high priority among EEE’s research pillars. From contaminants to sustainable processing, EEE students and faculty love investigating this precious resource. Which is why it’s no surprise several of our graduate students found their way to the American Water Works Association (AWWA)’s Water Quality Technology Conference (WQTC) in Schaumburg, Illinois last month.

Performers included: Chandra Nath on the flute (Senior Research Scientist), Xiaohan Wu with his violin (Graduate Student), Abigail Fouts with her guitar and beautiful voice (Undergraduate Student), and Cormac Fallon on the trumpet (Undergraduate Student).

Q&A with a Purdue BSEEE & MSEEE Alumna and current PhD student at UNC: Holly Haflich

On October 1, Holly Haflich captivated Purdue students with her presentation on water treatment and resource recovery using ion exchange membranes. Following her talk, Purdue EEE students had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Holly, where she shared her journey as an undergrad, master’s student, and now a doctoral candidate.
