Purdue University will play a significant role in the Great Lakes Water Innovation Engine (or ReNEW). EEE's Linda Lee serves as PI for Purdue's research which will help define and advance strategies that eliminate toxic so-called “forever chemicals,” while also extracting valuable, reusable minerals from wastewater.

Rylan Elliott, Thalia May, and Adam Spieth brought their Purdue Environmental and Ecological Engineering brains and work ethic to the central Dominican Republic last December. Why? To build a reliable water system for the school community of El Desecho.

Why EEE? For Taymee Brandon, a Ph.D. candidate in Purdue’s EEE program from Montana, U.S.A., the reasons are clear: high-quality education, research and study flexibility, and the acquisition of essential professional skills.

Extreme events wipe out entire forests, dramatically eliminating complex ecosystems as well as local communities. Researchers have become quite familiar with such attention-grabbing events over the years. They know less, however, about the more common moderate-severity disturbances, such as relatively small fires, ice storms, and outbreaks of pests or pathogens. Purdue researchers are discovering more.

One of Liddell’s new research projects was recently awarded $50,000 from Purdue’s Ag-Eng seed grant program. The Ag-Eng Collaborative Initiative provides seed money for promising new research between faculty members from the Colleges of Agriculture and Engineering.

Brady Hardiman (EEE/FNR) is on a research team that received a Fall 2023 SPARK grant! Dr. Daniel Aliaga (PI), Dr. Hardiman, and Dr. Melba Crawford were 1 of 4 interdisciplinary teams selected to receive Spark funding for their project, "Urban Computes: Toward an Emerging Integrative Urban Computing Expedition." SPARK supports teams with up to $100,000 for critical development activities linked to external grant proposals of $7 million or more.

Chip Blatchley, Rebecca Ciez, Brady Hardiman, John Howarter, John Mulrow, Larry Nies, Lindsey Payne, Andrew Whelton, and George Zhou were named Outstanding Engineering Teachers based on their student course evaluations for Fall 2023.
