Purdue Engineering Achieves a First for Environmental Engineering in U.S. News Undergraduate Rankings
Purdue University’s College of Engineering continues to rise in national prominence, with its environmental engineering program ranked No. 10 in the 2025–2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs — marking the program’s first appearance in the top 10 at the undergraduate level.
This milestone comes on the heels of a major institutional advancement: the July launch of the School of Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE). Building upon the nationally recognized foundation of the Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) program, SEE is the first academic unit in the U.S. to fully integrate sustainability engineering with environmental engineering — a visionary approach designed to address the complex challenges of a rapidly changing world.
"This top 10 ranking underscores the growing national recognition of our faculty, students and innovative curriculum,” said John Sutherland, Fehsenfeld Family Head of SEE and a pioneer in the field of sustainable engineering. “By uniting environmental and sustainability engineering under one school, we’re preparing engineers to lead in both protecting the planet and designing systems that promote long-term societal well-being.”
Purdue's graduate program in environmental engineering has also consistently earned top 10 rankings from U.S. News & World Report, reflecting a strong tradition of academic excellence, impactful research and industry engagement.
The launch of SEE and the program’s rising national profile further reinforce Purdue Engineering’s commitment to developing the next generation of leaders in sustainability and environmental innovation.
