ExxonMobil leader Chad Shockley joins Purdue SEE Advisory Council
Chad Shockley (BSCE ’99, MSCE ’01), Energy Products Process Manager at ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge, has joined the Purdue University Sustainability Engineering and Environmental Engineering (SEE) External Advisory Council — marking a meaningful milestone in a career rooted in Boilermaker pride and purpose.
A proud two-time Purdue alumnus, Shockley credits his education in environmental engineering with laying the foundation for more than 24 years of leadership and innovation in the global energy sector.
Since joining ExxonMobil in 2001, Shockley has built a diverse and influential career spanning environmental engineering, biofuels research, energy economics and refinery operations. His professional journey has taken him across North America — from Virginia and California to Texas, Louisiana and Ontario — where he has led high-performing teams, advanced research and development initiatives, and driven operational excellence at some of the company’s most complex facilities.
Whether collaborating with traders as an energy economist or guiding refinery operations in Baton Rouge, Shockley’s leadership reflects the core values of integrity, ownership, adaptability and active caring — principles that continue to shape his approach to people, performance and progress.
Outside of work, Shockley is a husband and father of two sons, Griffin and Rhett. He also served four years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, with deployments to Norfolk, San Diego and Oslo — experiences that deepened his commitment to service and discipline.
“It’s a privilege to give back to the Purdue community and help shape the future of environmental engineering,” Shockley said of his appointment to the SEE External Advisory Council. “I’m excited to support a program that played such a pivotal role in my own journey and to help prepare the next generation of engineers to lead with purpose and impact.”
