EEE Professor and Graduate Student get paper featured on journal cover
A research paper authored by Prof. Chad Jafvert and his Ph.D. student, Yingcan Zhao, was featured on the cover of the April issue of Environmental Science: Nano.
It was featured on the cover of Environmental Science: Nano (vol. 2, pp 136-142, 2015), published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, UK
(http://pubs.rsc.org/en/journals/journalissues/en). The paper, entitled "Environmental Photochemistry of Single Layered Graphene Oxide", explores how this specific carbon-based nanomaterial is transformed by sunlight in the aquatic environment. The research shows that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced through electron transfer from the graphene oxide to dissolve molecular oxygen, and that the surfaces of the graphene oxide sheets undergo chemical changes. This is one of the first studies to report on the environmental fate of this emerging nanomaterial.
