Internship Programs

  • IP: Internship Program - Students can work two or three work sessions for a different employer. Students could begin working any time following their freshman year. Students can secure positions through the Professional Practice Office, the Center for Career Opportunities, or their own efforts. Employer's register through the Professional Practice Office and students complete a work report reflecting upon the lessons learned during the work session.

  • IIP: Intensive Internship Program - This program allows students to have enough time with an employer host organization to complete a significant short-term industrial project. The duration of the Intensive Internship Program is one semester and one summer session. These sessions can be completed in either order, but must be consecutive. The student will have roughly 8 months with a single employer host organization.


 

(IP) Internship

Program Structure

This program allows students to experience several different employer host organizations. The duration of the internship experience is one summer session. There is no obligation on the part of the employer to allow the student to return, but this may happen in certain circumstances. The student will have roughly three months with a single employer host organization. This program is a transcript-recorded experience.

Qualifications

Undergraduate first-semester freshman coursework completed with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Typical prerequisite courses for engineering and technology students include math and lab sciences.

Compensation

A significant salary is paid for all assignments. Typically, the session pay is 55% of a bachelor’s starting salary.

Program Costs

There is a work-experience fee due for the terms spent on the job site. This fee entitles students to a full-time academic status, but does not include student activity fees. Normal tuition and fees are charged only while on campus. Employers are encouraged to pay a portion of the work-experience fee.

Application Procedure

Students are recruited during their freshmen year and participate in the summer following their freshmen, sophomore, or junior year. Applications are accepted at any time. Applicants are chosen by the employer host organizations during on-campus interviews. Selection depends upon the student’s academic achievement on campus within their home department (2.0 GPA minimum) and their success during the interview process.
