Global Career Impact Survey
The Global Career Impact Survey (GCIS) is designed to better understand the impact of global experiences during and after the undergraduate years on global career outcomes. This research study is supported by the National Science Foundation. The findings will help educators and companies revolutionize global learning experiences for engineering students and engineers.
The annotated survey instrument can be found here: /GCIS/gcis-survey/Annotated GCIS survey instrument 2.pdf
Frequently Asked Questions
Who has participated in the GCIS?
The GCIS has been administered to alumni of the colleges of engineering at the following universities:
• The University of Rhode Island
• The University of Cincinnati
• Purdue University
Initial results from Phase 1 of our project can be found here: https://engineering.purdue.edu/GCIS/project-overview/phase-I
How do I administer the survey?
You will need to create a survey in a tool such as Qualtrics using the items from the GCIS instrument. The annotated survey instrument with all items is linked at the top of this page.
How long does it take to complete the survey?
We estimate that the total time required to complete all study procedures is between 25 to 30 minutes.
What does the survey ask about?
The survey is divided into five sections:
Section 1 - Degrees and Employment
Section 2 - Global Job tasks, Self-Concept, and Interests
Section 3 - Undergraduate Experiences
Section 4 - Questionnaires on Global Knowledge and Attitudes
Section 5 - Demographic Information
Why should I use this survey instrument?
The survey instrument is designed to help us understand how global undergraduate experiences influence engineers’ career pathways. By administering this survey, you will gain insight on your respondents’ global undergraduate experiences, past/current work experiences, and career paths. Results help to inform this much-needed area of research and help educators and companies revolutionize global learning experiences for engineering students and engineers.
