Graduate Degrees in Environmental and Ecological Engineering

We are pleased with your interest in our graduate program. Before you continue with the electronic application for admission, we wish to ensure that you are familiar with the minimum requirements for admission to graduate degree study in Environmental and Ecological Engineering.  It is important to recognize that although satisfaction of these basic requirements does not guarantee graduate admission, failure to satisfy these requirements may lead to automatic denial of admission.

Application Deadlines

Applications and all supporting documentation must be received on or before January 1st for Fall admission. Currently EEE does not accept applications for Spring or Summer admission.

To Apply

  • Submit an online application through the Graduate School.
  • Upload copies of all transcripts to the online application. You do not need to mail official transcripts unless specifically requested to do so by Environmental and Ecological Engineering.
  • Current master’s students wishing to move to a doctoral degree program in this same graduate program will not be required to submit a new application.

Supporting Documents

Additional documents are required to support the application. Supporting documents should be uploaded to the online application or mailed directly to the graduate program to which you are applying, as directed below. Click the links below for details. Supporting documents include the following, unless specific instructions are noted in the requirements sections of this page:

  • Transcripts
  • English Proficiency
  • Recommendation letters
  • Statement of Purpose - essay of approximately words stating clearly and succinctly the reason for seeking graduate study in Environmental and Ecological Engineering at Purdue University, the applicant’s career goals, and research interests. The applicant may include information about any unique circumstances, special abilities, awards, achievements, scholarly publications, or professional history that are relevant to the admission decision.

Additional Information for International Applicants

  • Both original language transcripts and English translations are required. Please upload them into your online application.

Master’s Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 3.0 or equivalent required for unconditional admission.
  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree at a college or university of recognized standing.

Additional International Applicant Requirements:

TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: For unconditional admission consideration, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 575
  • Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 90, with the following minimum section scores required:

    • Reading: 19
    • Listening: 14
    • Speaking: 18
    • Writing: 18
  • IELTS (Academic Module): An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 6.5 or higher will be accepted
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module): An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 60 or higher will be accepted
  • TWE for Non-Native English Speakers: Not required, but recommended.

Doctoral Degree Program Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 3.0 or equivalent required.
  • Master's Degree Completion: Must have completed a Master’s degree or equivalent coursework in an appropriate discipline.

Additional International Applicant Requirements:

TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: For unconditional admission consideration, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

If you do not meet the basic requirements described above, please do not submit an electronic application until you have contacted our graduate program staff (eeegrad@purdue.edu).
